The splash is momentary. Fleeting. The pebble slides to the depths. But look again. Watch what is happening now. Small circles, expanding, and spreading. The reaction extends, finding shorelines, small islands, and sandbanks. The ripples gather up sticks and feathers, a boat moored on a long line. Movement, action … stirred by the tiniest of actions. The pebble in the pond, creating ripples.
- Mr. Fables
The amount of time I spend in here is growing day by day and I am enjoying it so much! There are so many publications, for each and every single topic, some you can think of, others will just surprise you.
The past couple of days a thought had been swirling around about what to do with my fourth week of each month. What do I want to do with it? Another review? A bookish rant or bookish thoughts? Recommendations? Future reads? I just could not seem to agree with myself on what I wanted to do with it. So many options and yet none of them seemed quite right.
Morning runs are my favorites as I can spend time unwrapping what is on my mind, before the day takes over. As it happened I did run past a pond, and then it hit me: why not be the pebble in the pond?
At the very beginning of 2024 I had an encouragement session with
()Mr. Fables), a conversation that has stuck with me as I continued on my own writing journey. One thing that I have truly loved with this community is its ability to encourage each other as one tries to figure out how to navigate this new and exciting part of ourselves, becoming writers. But we are also readers, and in here we do read a lot. Up until now I have been more of a silent reader, sharing posts here and there, occasionally commenting on some - but as I ran past the pond I realized I could do just a little more.I could be a pebble in a pond too.
Since I already spend so much time here, enjoying the discovering great writers and publications, why not spend some time sharing them more consistently too? The ones that stood out, that made me think, laugh, find inspiration or that I just purely enjoyed.
This is my first pebble in the pond, four publications that I have enjoyed:
Giant's Causeway by Cosmographia
Cosmographia is one of those publications that just grabbed my attention from the first post I saw, and has quickly become on of my favorites in here. History, geography, art, photography and so much more! The history lover in me is in heaven whenever I find a new post I want to read. Some posts are part of series, like this one, that is a part of the Atlas' Notes series that features art, poetry, literature, cartography and photography all centered on a particular place. This post is about Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland. I visited a couple of years ago - so this post was a fun dive into it and to see how it is portrayed in art, literature and so on.
Your Simple Life Is One Of Your Greatest Gifts by Hauwa
First and foremost, this one took me to places I was not expecting at all. The relatability of the post hit home, the emotions and then the dark contrasts - it left a mark. A post that I kept coming back to and kept finding something new.
At least, drug dealers aren't looking for me...
Waterfall Chasing: Canyon of Five Falls by Field Notes
I love photography. Capturing a moment of time is just pure magic. Field Notes was one of the first publications I started following in here that focused on the art of photography and I have been so happy with it. Chasing waterfalls can be quite the adventure, and there is a gratefulness to just observe a moment without feeling that you have to capture it. A great read and a great publication to follow if photography is your cup of tea.
In Touch With The Inner Adult by The Fry Corner
It is no secret, that I am a huge fan of Stephen Fry and he is one of my favorite narrators when it comes to audiobooks - imagine my delight when I discovered he was here on Substack too! A brilliant essay, with I must admit, some very creepy looking AI generated illustrations - and a funny anecdote about the Queen Mother. Entertainment from beginning to the end.
From now on, the fourth newsletter of each month will be a pebble in the pond, I will be sharing publications that I have enjoyed. Feel free to share some of your favorite publications with me too!
Until next time,
happy reading! ✨
Wonderful idea and thanks for sharing the writing that has impacted you. Always great to see what resonates with others. I need to schedule myself one of those encouragement sessions soon.
So excited to see this, Gabby. Thrilled ... I'll be looking forward to these every month. What a lovely stage of your journey.
